Troon 2–1 Saltcoats Vics — SJFA West Region Ayrshire District League, 27 Oct 2012

Saltcoats took the lead in this game early on when McInness was upended in the box and Monan converted the penalty. 5mins later Troon were awarded a penalty at the other end when Lundy brought down the striker but he made amends when he saved the penalty.

Young had a good shot go just passed the post on 35 with the keeper beat. the only thing spoiling a good game is the over picky ref who so far has booked about 6 players, although Saltcoats have rode there luck for most of the half they are doing well.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first with Troon having the bulk of the play and Saltcoats defending well but it was no surprize when Troon got level 10mins into the second half, a good square ball across the 6 yard line was tapped in at the far post to make it 1-1. Although Troon were having the bulk of the attack Saltcoats did have thier chances with Slaven, Young and Monan all coming close, with time running out and the game looking like a draw the ref gave Troon a penalty for what only he saw as hand ball against Holden and dismissed the big defender, and when Troon scored the resulting penalty and made the score 2-1 they celebrated as if they had won the league, the only one they didn't thank was the ref. Yes on the balance of the game Troon deserved to win but they will go a long time before they get a harder game and the whole Saltcoats team should give themselves a pat on the back for such a resolute display.
