Benburb 4–2 Saltcoats Vics — Scottish Communities Cup, 17 Nov 2012

Both teams were evenly matched in this contest and it was Saltcoats that started the on the front foot and should have been ahead in 5 min through Young but his shot was week and easily saved , Saltcoats were making good headway through Slaven and McInessand it was no surprize when they took the lead on 20mins through Monan after a free kick from Frye was knocked out to the edge of the area monan found the top corner giving the keeper no chance. most of the next 20mins was a midfield battle but Benburb did get level on the stroke of half time from the penalty spot to make the half time score Benburb 1 Saltcoats 1

In the second half the weather deteriated and and to a certain extent so did Saltcoats, Benburb took the lead early in the second half with a well worked move down the right hand side and when the cross came in the number 10 was there to tap it home, Saltcoats to thier credit fought hard to get back into the game and were rewarded on the hour when Young was brought down at the third attempt and the ref had no option but to point to the spot and up stepped Paul Monan to bring it back level. But the score line was only to remain level for 7min when once again Benburb came down the right squared the ball goal 3-2 number 9, shortly afterwards a little bit of indisapline set in to the Vics players but was quickly halted by Walsh pulling both players off for Quinn and Hands, with 5mins remaining Benburb put the game to bed with a similar move again down the right square ball 4-2 game over. Yes Saltcoats went out the Scottish but to a better side and should take some credit for the way the played and had Quinn scored at 3-2 when through 1on 1 it could have been so different, and a lot can be learned form the display from Bryan Slaven for his work rate and attitude throughout the match final score Benburb 4 Saltcoats 2.
