Winton Rovers 3–2 Saltcoats Vics — Ayrshire League Cup, 5 Aug 2013

Report by keano

Saltcoats in the first half of this game were under par, and Winton were making the most of it, and when Darren Murphy was injured on 15mins and was replaced by Joe Hands it unsettled Saltcoats. With ex-Saltcoats striker Joe Young playing up front for Winton he was exploiting the week points and on 24mins set up Hay to make it 1-0, and on 32mins when he beat the off-side to make it 2-0 you felt the worst for Saltcoats.

At half time manager Ryland made a couple of positional change, and we saw a different Saltcoats in the second half, and when Mathew Santos pulled a goal back on 49mins Saltcoats were the better side but shortly after the goal keeper Catterson had to go off with a broken finger to be replaced by Ross Lundy, Saltcoats continued to press Winton for the equalizer and Santos was unlucky with a chip on 65mins. On 78mins it was Joe Young who again was the thorn in Saltcoats side when he raced forward to beat Lundy and make it 3-1. Saltcoats at this point could have given up but to thier credit they continued to work hard and when McLelland pulled it back to 3-2 on 85mins Winton were begining to blow out thier rear end, Saltcoats pushed for a third but time was to run out final score Winton 3 Saltcoats 2

The better side won yes but the game proved to both teams they will need improving to challenge for the league.
