Written by KeanoThere may only be a league apart but today showed just how big that gap can be as Beith were streets ahead. Having been relegated last term Beith are building a squad to go straight back up and I don't foresee any problem. There was 4 goals in the first half and 2 in the second but if it had not been for Lundy in goal it could have been so much more. Great credit must go to all the players that played as Saltcoats started the game with only 7 fit players and 4 carrying an injury, as well as the 3 on the bench.
The goals when they did come in the 4th min from Mclean,13th min from Macgowan,18th min McLean, 23 min Docherty, 59th min and Bradley late on were some well worked goals, and one or 2 good finishes, Saltcoats did have one or 2 chances in the game from McLelland, Havlin and Davidson, with Havlin coming closest early in the second half with a volley.
The scoring was kept down in the second half with at least 4 great saves from Lundy, and his positioning at times was first rate, there was also some good play from Graeme Patterson in mid-field and Calum Daividson and Lee Havin up front and as usual Tam Mclelland run his heart out for the 90mins. Monan, Easdon and McDonald also put in a shift at the back, and not forgetting Ferris , Hands and Murphy in the middle of the park. Although this was a sound defeat I am sure a few of the younger player will have learned a good bit from this game, and the senior player reminded against a good team time is scarce.
Trialists 4 Maritn McDonald, 11 Lee Havlin, 15 Scott Knight, 16 Darren Murphy.
