A very even game played out between 2 evenly matched teams, both teams fought for ever ball and there was never going to anymore than a goal between them and so it proved, Irvine were the first to have a shot on goal and Colligan's shot was tipped over by Cunningham in the Saltcoats goal. it was then McLelland's turn for a shot when he rolled his marker Burgess and shot only to Lamb in the Irvine goal in as good a form as his own keeper. With most of the game a tight affair in mid-field shots on goal were few and far between and it was no surprise when half time came it was still 0-0, both Ryland and McMillan tweaked there teams slightly at half time without actually changing the personel, it did liven the match up a little but there was still very little between the sides, Davidson should have put Saltcoats ahead but Shot just wide early in the second half, but it was to be Irvine that broke the deadlock on the hour mark when Johnston crossed to Colligan in what looked very like an off-side position but like all good strikers he tucked the ball away and didn't worry about whether he was on or off and put Irvine 1 up. Ryland then flug on Micheal Hart for Sean Forde and it almost payed off right away when he chipped Lamb but was very unlucky to see his chip land on the bar, but the leveler did come in the 82nd min when Stewart was crudley brought down in the box and ref Broome pointed to the spot and Quinn kept his cool to slot past lamb and bring Saltcoats back level. Saltcoats very nearly stole the points right at the death in very farsical circumstances where the Ref awarded them a free kick after he sent an Irvine player off for re-entering the field of play without permission and if Patterson had been half an inch bigger the points would have been making there way along the A78 back to Saltcoats. In the end a fair result although both manager will feel maybe they should have got more.
