Saltcoats Vics 4–0 Craigmark Burtonian — SJFA West Region Ayrshire District League, 23 Nov 2013

Report by keano

Saltcoats faced a changed Craigmark side from earlier in the season with new manager Brian Kerr making his stamp on the side, but they were beaten by one man, Mark Ferris who scored 3 and set up the forth.

Saltcoats started the game on the front foot, and for the remaining 90mins were very rarely off it, but in the first half found goals hard to come by. In the early mins Saltcoats tested the Craigmark defence twice and on both occasions, firstly from Gibson and 2mins later from Stewart shots were blocked by the new Craigmark defence. the first goal when it did come on 38mins was a scrappy affair, Ferris knock in a goalmouth scramble after a good corner was put in by Quinn. Craigmark did have the occasional flurry up feild but were being easily delt with by Hercus and more so Smith in the Saltcoats defence.

The second half pattern was much the same as the first with Saltcoats well in control, and with 3 goals coming before the hour mark this game was over as a contest, Mark Ferris scored his own second after a good pass from Steven Gibson played him in on 55mins, this was added to on 58mins by a superb solo goal when Ferris beat 2 defenders to cut inside and he picked his spot in the top corner to complete his hat-trick and give Worrall in the Craigmark goal no chance. And 2 mins later that man Feris was at it again when he played in Santos 25yds out and the little stricker made no mistake when a rifled a shot in to the net after advancing in on the keeper. Saltcoats continued to have the bulk of possesion and at one stge had 5 corners one after another but failed to find the net again and ran out winner by 4 -0.
