This was a game the should really never have started as the weather conditions were horrendous, but start it did and both teams to thier credit produced a really good game, 4 goals ,3 players booked,2 sendings off and a fair point a piece in the end up.

The game started in a howling wind and lashing rain on an already heavy pitch, but both teams tried there best to play football, in the early stages Whitletts were coping slightly better with the conditions and Catterson was called upon early to save Saltcoats going behind when the lively Allen got past Patrick on the right hand side and bore in on goal. But gradually Saltcoats got to grips with the weather and came more into the game, and when Catterson kicked a long ball up field it was headed on by Hart to Santos to race in on goal only to be denied by Callaghan in the Whitletts goal. There was some nice skills in the mid-field department coming from Davidson and Monan and the later was next to test the keeper, when he beat Holland and shot from the edge of the area. Whitletts did break the deadlock on 20mins from a corner that was knocked out sevral times and returned eventually falling to the feet of Allen 2yds out and he rammed the ball into the onion bag to put the home team in front. Saltcoats to there credit continued to play some good football and it was Hart next to have a go only to see it knocked over the bar by Callaghan. and just as the break was approching Monan put in an inch perfect cross for Satos to fire Saltcoats level.

The conditions did not improve much in the second half, and as the ground conditions got worse there was some meaty challenges going in, but that said they weren't dangerous. Davidson was first to have a shot at goal in the second half but fired wide, then Saltcoats were lucky not to fall behind when O'Conner broke free on goal but once again Catterson was up to the task diving at his feet to save. Saltcoats were next to have a go and Santos was played in by Forde but once again Callaghan in goal got a toe to his shot and played it on to the post. Whitletts did take the lead agin on 67mins from a scrappy corner that should have been cleared by Hercus but his clearance hit the on rushing Lawrie and fell to Balfour all of 2yds out and he fired home. Shortly afterwards Boyle was dissmissed after getting involved with Ferris on the wing and Ferris was replaced by Gibson. Saltcoats pulled level on 75mins when Santos again stripped the defence and this time he got the better of Callaghan to make it 2-2, but was dissmissed only 5mins later when he was pulled up by the ref for some handbags, and after some choice words he was dissmissed instead of the yellow he was going to get. Monan was close to winning it when he outpaced the defence and chipped the keeper but Holland made it back to clear the ball as it crossed the line. A draw was about a fair result even though Saltcoats had the better chances they found Callaghan in goal in inspired form.
