Saltcoats Vics 3–0 Ardeer Thistle — Ayrshire League Cup, 20 Aug 2014

Saltcoats easily beat Ardeer tonight by 3 goals to nil, and never really looked in any danger from an Ardeer side that were a far cry to the team we played last year. Ardeer looked at thier most dangerous in the opening mins when a couple of balls over the top for ex -saltcoats man Joe Young to chase looked like the best chance they had to score for most of the game apart from a couple of late efforts that went astray. Catterson was alert to anything early on and pulled of a good save to deny Young. And Curren was doing a good job to deny the same player on more than one occasion.

Once the game settled down after the opening exchanges Saltcoats began to take control with Black, Monan and Quinn giving the Ardeer defence nightmares. On 25mins Quinn sent over a pin point cross for Monan and the winger made no mistake to bullet the header past Brown in the Ardeer goal to put the seasiders ahead, and with-in 2mins Gibson had doubled the Saltcoats lead after a goal mouth scramble he fired the ball into the roof of the net.

Goal number three came from the penalty spot from Quinn, after James Moan tied up Holden and the big defender brought him down to give the ref an easy disision. As the game wore on and peetered out some players were giving away needless free kicks and becoming involved when there was no need, but Saltcoats were worthy winners and Ardeer will need a big improvment when they come to league bussiness.
