Written by KeanoSaltcoats were knocked out of the Scottish Cup 5-0 by Maud after a poor performance at Campbell Park.
Although the score line was 5-0 there was not a great deal between the sides, just Saltcoats on the day did not perform thus making an easy afternoon for Dunbar in the Maud goal who was not tested all afternoon. The game was played with a strong wind blowing down Campbell Park to Mauds advantage in the first half and within 12mins they made full use of it and went a goal up when Barbour beat Curran and went on to slot the opener past Catterson, and Catterson was called upon a couple of mins later to stop them going further ahead when he pulled of a good save from a Ritchie shot. Saltcoats eventually got up field on 20mins when Davidson won a free kick 25yards from goal but Easdon was high and wide with his effort. With the wind blowing the Saltcoats defence of Hercus, McNulty and Easdon were being made to work by the Maud front line and on 35mins they thought they had went further ahead when Hale looked to have score but was adjudged offside to remain 1-0, but they were to increase thier lead before the break when Sean Bremner broke down the left and gave Catterson no chance to put Peterhead side 2 up, but you always felt with the wind at thier backs Saltcoats could get back into the game in the second half.
But even with the wind in thier faces Maud scored a further 3 goals in the second half and when Barbour scored his second and Mauds third on 48mins it was game over , further goals in the 60th min from Donald Fraser, and Allan Hale on 70mins rounded off a good day for the Northerners and leave the seasiders wondering what if.
