Match report

4 goals, 3 sent off, 2 resign, 1 left in charge.

A bad day got worse for Saltcoats after the match when Manager Rikki Ryland informed the committee that he had been offered the managers position at Whitletts and tendered his resignation, and the club wish both Rikki and Wullie the best of luck in thier new post.

Winton started the game the stronger and took the game to Saltcoats with Connor Browning giving Liam Curran a difficult time on the left side and it was to prove a turning point in the game when Curran was booked on 9mins and dismissed on 17 when Browning dispossesed Curran and the defender lunged into a tackle and left referree Grainger with no option to send him packing, and it took Rovers another 10mins to press home their advantage when John Johnston fired home at the second attempt after Catterson had saved his first effort, Saltcoats to thier credit were still being competitive and Tam McLelland playing in his 200th game in Saltcoats colors was denied by Kenny Pollock in the Winton goal on the half hour and Mark Ferris also went close with a shot from distance. Winton increased their lead on 35mins when after some good work between Ryan Caddis and Ben Carson resulted in Caddis making it 2 after he had cleared a ball from his own box to Carson and between them they travelled the length of the feild and Carson played a delightful ball to Caddis to fire home from just inside the box. Sean Hainey was to make it 3 just before the break, when he combined well with Willet to by-passed the Saltcoats defence on the left and fire home under Catterson a move that saw both Catterson and McLelland booked for dissent.

Half time Saltcoats Vics 0 Winton Rovers 3

Most people were expecting Winton to push on in the second half and increase there goal differance taking a 3 goal and a 1 man advantage into the second half, but Saltcoats to their credit made a game of it when they changed their set up at the back and looked a more scure unit. Winton went close early in the half when a Jared Willet overhead kick hit the bar and bounced on the line before being cleared by Billy Arthur, on 65mins Saltcoats had there best chance of the game when Colin Webb kicked a Tam McLelland shot off the line, and Ferris again went close from distance. Saltcoats were reduced to 9 men when McLelland was dismissed after some hand bags in the middle of the park after a Davidson tackle on Caddis resulted in several player having a pushing match, and with the game fizzeling out Saltcoats were further reduced when Billy Arthur was sent packing for up ending Cashmore as he bore in on goal and Ryan Caddis made no mistake from the resulting penalty to compound the seasiders misery and make the final score Saltcoats Victoria 0 Winton Rovers 4
