Saltcoats Vics 0–5 Auchinleck Talbot — Ayrshire Cup (SJFA West Region), 6 May 2015

Report by Keano

Auchinleck started this game meaning buissiness and were unlucky not to take the lead right away when Wilson's shot was well saved by Catterson in the Saltcoats goal, but it only delayed matters as they did take the lead shortly afterwards when Mark Shankland fired home from close range after some good build up play from Spence and Gormley. Saltcoats to thier credit did not let the goal effect them and Jason Kean was unlucky not to level things up with a header after Sean Quinn put in an inch perfect cross, this sparked Talbot to life and the doubled thier lead on 8mins, when a poor Catterson clearance was played straight back in by Shankland to Alistair Park to slide to ball passed the helpless Goalie to make it 2-0 and you were then thinking how many as Talbot began to dominate, just before the half hour Auchinleck were awarded a penalty for an offence well outside the box and justice was done when Catterson saved the spot kick from Shankland, but the big striker was to make ameds just before the break when he headed home a Spence free kick to make it 3-0 at the break.

At the break Talbot repaced Leishman with Kerr and Boyd with Lavan, but it was Saltcoats that started the half the brighter and Quinn and Black were making in-roads down the wing and McKie was more than holding his own up front, but you always felt there was a gear or two left in Talbot if they needed it, and to prove it they replaced Gormley with Keir Milliken.  On the hour Mark Shankland made it 4-0 for Talbot when he fired home his Third goal from close range and that man Milliken made it 5 just before the end to make it a good nights work for Talbot, but this young Saltcoats side hold their heads up and i am sure they will have come away from this game having learned a lot.
